This book is the English edition of Rev. Daniel Li’s Chinese book 揭露靈界存在的證據. The author uses a scientific approach (collecting, verifying and analysing evidence) to examine channelling practices such as planchette writing, and concludes that they are linked to the unclean spirits described in the Bible. It also provides a DIY self-test and 28 questions and answers about the spiritual realm.

Is demon possession real? How the author approaches the question?

The author handled his first case of demon possession in 1979. By the end of 2017 he had handled about 1,300 self-claimed cases, but only about a tenth were really spiritually relevant. The rest were related to mental, psychological, growth or family issues, and a few were even frauds.

That is the book’s starting point: rule out first, then assess.
Chapter 5 explains what to check before any test, including:

● Whether the person is seeking faith on their own initiative
● Whether there is any inherited disease
● Whether the person is able to think autonomously
● Whether there is any likelihood of self-harm
● Whether the evidence is confirmed by the parties involved

作者介紹

李錦彬牧師，畢業於海外神學院，建道神學院教牧學碩士學位，伯特利神學院道學碩士學位，加拿大Acadia大學所頒發臨床牧關家庭輔導（PCE）助理督導的專業資格。曾牧養三間教會。2012年以提早退休的名義，離開了牧養長達22年的教會。此後專心以寫書，講道和培訓作為餘生的工作目標。他所著的《福音研經栽培課程》曾於香港華人基督教聯會主辦的「基督教教育教材獎勵計劃」獲「甲級」獎；著作涵蓋查經栽培、傳福音與靈界辨別三大範疇。

【Q : Is every claim of demon possession real?】

A : No. The author writes that of about 1,300 self-claimed cases he handled from 1979 to the end of 2017, only about a tenth were really spiritually relevant. The rest involved mental, psychological, growth or family issues, and a few were frauds. Chapter 5 sets out what should be checked before any test.

【Q : Are people with mental illness more likely to be demon-possessed?】

A : According to the book, no. The author explains that the brain of a mentally ill person does not function as usual to control thought and behaviour, so such a person is of little use to unclean spirits.

【Q : Is sleep paralysis (“ghost oppression”) caused by spirits?】

A : The book says sleep paralysis has nothing to do with ghosts or spirits. It usually happens as a person is about to fall asleep, and the author treats it as mainly a matter of fatigue or mental pressure.

【Q : I tried “pen fairy” (spirit writing) when I was young. Was I affected?】

A : The author’s answer is that if there were a real problem, it would already have shown itself. A single occasion or two would not make a spirit stay in the body, and you should be fine as long as you do not try it again.

【Q : Is there a Chinese edition?】

A : Yes. The original Traditional Chinese edition, 揭露靈界存在的證據, was published by Evangelistic Bible Study in July 2018. This English edition was translated by Lam Yan-kit.
